Penn College graphic design students sweep awards

Graphic design students from Pennsylvania College of Technology captured all student awards in the latest American Advertising Awards presented by the Northeast Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Advertising Federation.

“Our students did outstanding work, and these awards reinforce the quality of our program and our soon-to-be graduates,” said Nicholas L. Stephenson, instructor of graphic design. “Congratulations to all of this year’s American Advertising Awards winners. Amid COVID and social distancing, the AAF of Northeast PA was able to put on a great virtual awards show.”

In total, Penn College graphic design students garnered 12 awards, including the coveted Student Best in Show and two of three Judges’ Choice awards given by each judge to a student or professional design entry found to be a personal favorite.

Tyler W. Miller, of Montgomery, captured the Student Best in Show as well as a Judges’ Choice and Student Gold – all for his “Independent School Branding” submission.

During the online awards ceremony, Miller’s design work was called a “slam dunk” and compared to the “astonishing” arrival of Michael Jordan on the basketball scene.

Katherine A. Downes, of Fleetwood, also received a Judges’ Choice nod for her “Legendary Beer Works Packaging,” which also attained a Student Silver award.

Student Gold honors were given to Hailee B. Mercy, of Felton, and Kaylee A. Smith, of East Stroudsburg. Both earned their wins with their “Bright Mountain School Branding” entries.

Mercy also won two Student Silver awards for her “Jovibe Coffee Packaging” and “Book Jacket Series.”

Other students receiving silver honors were: Alexa C. Henry, of Conshohocken, for “Cooperative School Branding”; Kaylee N. Masullo, of Bellefonte, for “Craft Beer Packaging”; and Joey M. Morrin, of Morrisville, for “Bright Mountain School Branding.”

All of the students are graduating with Bachelor of Science degrees on May 14.
